Every year on 9 May, Europe Day celebrates peace and unity in Europe — the anniversary of the historic Schuman Declaration, which laid the foundations for today’s European Union. It is a day to reflect on the values that unite the continent: democracy, solidarity, human rights and cooperation.
It is in this spirit that the Jean Monnet module project European Integration Course for Central Asia (EICCA) proudly joins the celebration of Europe Day. As one of the first academic projects in Tajikistan to focus on structured EU studies, EICCA is dedicated to promoting a deeper understanding of the EU’s institutions, policies, values and its evolving relationship with Central Asia.
Throughout this academic year, EICCA has offered a comprehensive elective course on European integration, supported by experts from both Central Asia and the European Union. Over 430 hours of EU studies are being delivered to more than 100 students, complemented by a wide range of complementary activities. These include a summer school on European integration, capacity building workshops for teachers, internal academic roundtables and active dissemination of knowledge. Our collaboration with EU-based scholars — such as Prof. Srdjan Redzepagic (University of Côte d’Azur) and Associate Professor Marko Tomljanović (University of Rijeka) — adds valuable international expertise and credibility to our efforts.
This year’s EU-Central Asia Summit, the first of its kind, marks an important milestone in the deepening partnership between the two regions. We are proud that the EICCA project reflects this spirit of cooperation by providing a platform for education, research and intercultural dialogue.
On this Europe Day, we congratulate our partners, students and supporters — and reaffirm our commitment to fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between Europe and Central Asia.
Happy Europe Day from the EICCA team!
